Monkey Reading Log

It's winding down to the end of the year!  Use this fun reading log as a way to motivate your students to continue to read each night. This includes:

1. A cover page

2. A page of monkeys for your students to write down how many minutes they read each night on each monkey. Also a place for parents to initial.

3. A reading log sheet for students to write the title, author, minutes they read, date, and parent initial.

4. A fun recipe for a banana split and a cute clip art monkey that allows students to write a goal for how many minutes they plan to read each night.

5. A full page branch clip art for students to cut out and hang in the classroom. As they fill out their monkeys each night, they can cut a monkey out and hang it on this branch.

Double Digit x Single Digit Multiplication

My students are becoming experts at double digit x single digit multiplication. I created this game with a student or two in mind so that they could check their answers independently before turning in their work. Students will choose a gumball machine card and write the problem on their recording sheet. They will solve for the product and then look for the gumball with the matching answer. If they cannot find the gumball with their answer, they know that they must check their work again. This math center would be a great addition to your math workshop! Mother's Day

Here's some fun spring writing paper that I used with my students.  We made construction paper flowers and wrote poems about our flowers on this cute paper.  This year, my students LOVE poetry!  All day long I heard, "Mrs. Goliday, can I have another piece of paper so that I can make another Spring poem??"

Long and Short A Word Work

I like to have a variety of word work sorts and activities for each spelling pattern that we are working on. Here is a packet I created as an exciting way to sort long and short a. These sorts and games were created to meet the needs of all of my students by differentiating the words they are using for each activity. Some of the words follow a simple cvc pattern while others have more complex spelling patterns like digraphs, blends, and vowel teams. Here's a freebie!  This is great practice for students who get their spelling words wrong.  They can practice writing their spelling words in print, cursive, and in sentences!  :-)

3 Letter Blends Freebie

We have 3 letter blends coming up soon in our spelling word patterns. I always try to create one or two fun word sorts for the kids to play during the word work center of daily 5. Animal Reports

Each year in my third grade class, students create reports as a component of our non-fiction writing curriculum.  Since I LOVE incorporating science in my writing curriculum, each year I have my students do animal reports.  They LOVE IT!  My students get to choose their animal, study and research it, write about it, then lastly, they present their report to the class.  I decided to create an Animal Report packet to make it easier for my students to gather and organize their information.  This 9-page packet is filled with graphic organizers to help students organize their facts and information before writing and presenting their report.  Check it out a few of the pages!
